Abdelilah BELATIK

Secretary General of CIBAFI


Mr. Belatik was previously Assistant Secretary-General of the Malaysia based Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), where he was responsible for overseeing key initiatives among others, the Integrated Result Based Management Framework (IRBM) and strategic performance planning for the Secretariat, standards implementation initiatives in member countries and spearheading cooperation and development of the Islamic financial services with multilateral banks and global organisations in the industry. The key mandate of the IFSB is to facilitate the sound and stable development of the Islamic financial services industry, mainly through the development of global prudential standards and guidelines, and promoting their implementation among member countries.

Prior to joining the IFSB, Mr. Belatik was attached to PricewaterhouseCoopers firm and has worked in Luxembourg, New York and Hong Kong offices mainly in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services, Financial Services practice. 

Abdelilah is a qualified Business Engineer from Brussels - Belgium and has a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Sciences. He is fluent in Arabic, English and French.

CIBAFI is an international non-profit organization, affiliated to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It was established as an initiative of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and key global Islamic financial institutions with the core mandate of representing the Islamic financial services industry globally, defending and protecting its role, consolidating co-operation among its members and with other institutions with similar interest and objectives. 

CIBAFI is headquartered in the Kingdom of Bahrain pursuant to an Emiri decree issued on May 12, 2001, and includes in its membership a large number of Islamic banks, financial institutions and Islamic investment institutions .
